The Center welcomes innovative projects in research opportunities, as well as scalable solutions to       promote regional based geospatial data infrastructures.

GIS Project Consultation
Center faculty and staff are a valuable resource providing insight, knowledge and experience acquired from real world project management.
Project services include needs assessment, implementation planning, maintenance and transaction strategies and the development and implementation of geospatial data and associated infrastructures.

The Center welcomes questions concerning projects of all scales and variety.  Our broad base of expertise includes applications in local government, environment, business, utilities, demographic analysis and more.

The Center is a valuable resource for research sponsored activities at Central Michigan University.  Contact the Center for more information regarding GIS as a tool for research opportunities.

Data Capture/Conversion
The Center has a variety of equipment and software that is used to capture and/or convert feature level data and their corresponding attributes.  Data capture/conversion is carried out using global positioning systems (GPS), scanners, digitizing units and industry standard software.

Data capture/conversion often involves designing and building a database to store attributes about a feature.  Typically, the database that stores attributes will be used to relate, or join to other databases in an organization.  The Center knows the importance of designing databases and data models to meet the needs of all users.

Training\Workshops
The Center is housed in the Geography Department with two computer laboratories.
Contact the Center for more information regarding training workshops and customizing a course to meet the needs of your organization.

Cartographic Production

Creating quality cartographic products from existing data located at the Center, or other locations such as the State of Michigan's Geospatial Data Library.

Mapping products can be standardized in template form and stored in digital format to provide future reproduction, editing, and mass production in a timely manner.  Maps in this category are typically requested beyond the life cycle of the specific project that generated the map.

The Center welcomes innovative request to combine other emergent technologies with GIS.  Examples would include multimedia, 3D modeling and animation, or fly-through presentations.

Application Development
The Center can modify programmatic functions of existing applications for the purpose of simplifying end user interfaces, facilitating data capture\editing and enhancing routine tasks such as report generation or map production.

Internet Mapping Services (IMS)
IMS technologies represent an alternative means of providing geospatial data across an organization and to the clients it serves.  For government, IMS provides improved services to citizens, other public agencies and private entities through enhanced public access to information traditionally acquired through site visits.

Data Capture & Map Production Devices
Trimble Pro XR GPS - real time differential global positioning system (DGPS) with sub-meter accuracy.

Large Format Scanner - scans to 36" in width.

Digital Photogrammetric Scanner -
optimal for geometric performance and radiometric quality.

Hewlett Packard (HP) Design Jet 2500 - large format color plotter (36" width) for high end cartographic output.
